mspart
Where is Taylor, Cox, Dake, Retherford, and Gilman? I really do not like when guys miss this kind of opportunity. I see that Zahid is wrestling for us so rumors he is going to Mexico that I've read about seem unfounded at this time. It might happen but hasn't yet. Good for those who have chosen to participate, world team or no. I think any such opportunity is a great step in progress for anyone. I wish I could be there. Jason Bryant
4 of the 5 are affiliated with NLWC. Someone should ask Cael/Varner, et al. Insert catchy tagline here.
mspart
Snyder bucked the trend. Interesting observation JB. mspart
Mike Parrish
According to this https://cdn.uww.org/s3fs-public/2022-11/infos_12_coralville_web_0.pdf there's a 2kg allowance and they appear to have shuffled the groups for the women. Group A is now Japan, Mongolia and Ukraine Group B is now USA, China and The World

SoonerKing
Cael holds form. He doesn't believe in Dual Championships so he isn't sending his men to support the USA in a dual championship. Snyder has enough clout to just ignore Cael and buck the boss.

The best FS country is still banned and the other world #1s -3s are mostly skipping it. A Taylor or Dake don't get anything out of that type of competition, training or legacy wise. The WC are special in wrestling because they are the only tournament where all the best people show up and compete (though that hasn't actually been the case for worlds since 2019). I don't get the need to recreate those conditions and dilute the WC's importance? Especially if wrestling keeps its current Olympic sport style format of competition. I guess I say it for selfish reasons since I plan to attend. It is unfortunate that there are only two events that matter--Final X and WC's. Wish that wasn't the case. Most other sports are 24/7 affairs and all the top people face each other 5 million times and the matches don't mean anything and blend together. It makes int wrestling unique in the landscape. If it were to happen, I'd like it to exist outside of the UWW- IOC structure . Something like how tennis exists outside of the Olympics in any consideration. UWW trying to create two de facto WCs....,( which this blatantly is with the silly "all world" team addition) is pointless imo. Understand from your perspective, but it was kind of predictable that the top people wouldn't show up.

Understand from your perspective, but it was kind of predictable that the top people wouldn't show up. The US team in 2018 in Iowa City were largely the World reps but the timing of this event is not ideal. I have been to a couple WCs and by the end of the week, it's too much. I am not sure how to do it, but the best product might be a card-based approach with top level matches kind of like the UFC. 2-3 hour events regularly spaced throughout the year that have meaning would be an interesting product but runs counter to what wrestling traditionally does. Shiraz123
Possible we see a rematch of the 2022 65kg world final at this world cup. Amouzad is on the list for those invited to the training camp for this event.

We lost Zain in that vicious tornado in September #RIP. Dake is too young for UWW requirements. Taylor's hairline is busy training for Veteran's worlds. Kevin Jackson told Cox that he had an extra 15 minutes to submit his acceptance later so that's on USAW. 98lberEating2Lunches
How much does the 2kg weight allowance factor into an athlete's decision whether to compete (in consideration of their broader training/lifestyle approach)? I suppose it could factor in.

If Yianni had to make 65kg on 12/10, he probably wouldn't be doing the WC, CKLV the week before, and the Collegiate National Duals the week after, unless he really felt comfortable wrestling "under weight" in folkstyle. Something would have to give, I would guess.

I don't know which, if any, of Cornell's 2022 schedule Yianni is doing. My response was to whether that 2kg would have any impact on wrestlers' decisions. Without the 2kg, Yianni would likely not do CKLV, right? Doesn't mean he will be doing CKLV, of course. I've got to believe that he *will* be in NOLA the following week, and that 2kg might have made a difference.

Right. 65kg + 2kg = 67kg. 149lbs = 67.6kg. I was speaking more to post grad senior freestyle wrestlers who are definitely skipping. Do they prefer not to wrestle in an event with an allowance they wouldn't plan to use given their lifestyle/training approach?
