Final X - Tweeners

Greetings All,

Now that Final X is completed, I thought it might be interesting to get a Tweener thread going.

- Where do we see these guys going?

- Does it differ from where we think they should go?

- Do both of those answers differ from where we want them to go?

61 KG

Arujau - I think there is no universe where the answer for all three is a resounding 57 KG.  He should contend to be our Olympian.

Garrett - I think he should provide a full-effort go from here on to be 65 KG.  I both think he should and want him to do that.  Unfortunately I think he actually shoots himself in the foot, though, and attempts for 57 KG again.  Also unfortunately, he is a true tweener and won't find consistent success at either surrounding weights.

70 KG

Retherford - I want him to go 74 KG just to lay it on Turdberger.  I also believe the 70 KG version is considerably better than the 65 KG version.  I think he will go 65 KG and I think he should as well.  He might not contend at 74 KG, but you are talking 3rd to a very good Dake and JB.  I see him and Nolf as a tossup.  Always have.

Berger - He is just too big to go down, I think.  He has shown signs of life at 74 KG, though.  I think there is no doubt that all three amswers are the same: 74 KG.  I don't think he contends to be on the National Team.

79 KG

Marsteller - Much like Retherford I want him to go 86 KG.  He is a different guy at 74 KG than he isat 74 KG.  I think he will and shouldh go 74 KG, though.  He just beat JB FFS.  He is a tier behind at 74 KG, though.

Burroughs - Had he dominated through worlds this year I might have jumped on the 86 KG train for him.  I see no way he isn't at 74 KG and I do believe he is likely the guy against Dake at the OTT finals.

92 KG

Valencia - We already know he is going 86 KG.  He is 3rd at best there, though.  Possibly sitting out until the semifinals though?  Maybe that gives him an edge on Brooks?  Doubt it.

Macchiavello - 97 KG all day.  Not a contender, either.  As nice as he is it sucks to know that.

I do think a full-bodied 65KG Nahshon Garrett would smoke everyone we have at the weight. Not too sure how feasible it’d be to put on 4 good kilos & adapt your style to it in less than a year, though.

He was at 65kg for the OTTs in 2021 and went 0-2.

Lost 8-2 to Ashnault and 12-2 to Nick Lee, who wasn’t a full sized 65kg at that point.

That isn't really fair.

He was planning on 57 KG very late in the game there.  Until he wasn't.

Nahshon could and should have won final x.  He made so many bad decisions though, composure has always been a major problem for him on the freestyle circuit.

I think Retherford and Vito are in trouble, they both loose so much pop when when they drop that extra weight.  I don’t fault them for it, it’s not something they can control, but zain is missing his zip, I don’t think he’d beat nick lee with the extra cut, and same with vito, the cut clearly hurts.  Speaking of bad cuts, what was the deal with gilman? He looked like he knew something was going on the entire time, and didn’t even seem that surprised by losing to richards.

I’m going out on a limb now and saying I think we’ve seen the last of JB in a team trials finals.  He looked immobile and inactive against dake in the finals, same against marstellar, and Marstellar made him look tiny.  It looked like he didn’t have the room in his life to get the same sort of training in that he used to, which is totally fair, but he seemed like be was smelling the roses pretty hard before his finals match, which indicates he’s thinking about a lot OTHER than being the best competitor possible.

Taylor was sniffing those same flowers, but still managed to get the job done this time.  Based on how that all went though, I’m calling for taylor to bronze at worlds and for brooks to win in three matches for the olympics. Brooks looked a lot bigger, taylor looked smaller, and I’m betting by next year brooks is going to be straight diesel, and for taylor to be down another 5 pounds of muscle, kinda the way jb has gone the past two years.

Now for the requisite trolling, I’m saying J’den cox beats mason parris to go to the olympic team trials finals against steveson.
