Wrestleknownothing
Going into the 2015 tournament Edinboro was expected to score about 34 placement and advancement points based on their seeds. They actually scored 60.5 (75.5 with bonus added in). Their projected finish was 14th based on their seeds. Their actual finish was 3rd. And they did it with only 6 wrestlers. My detailed data only goes back to 2010. Was there a more overachieving team prior to 2010? 4 Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge
jchapman
Or a more underachieving regular season team? Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

They had three returning AA's who finished 4th, 3rd, 4th in 2014. Those three came in seeded 9th, 2nd, 3rd. So one lower, two higher. 11986
2015 Edinboro - 133 Schopp and 184 Avery deserve most of the overachieving credit. Schopp was 9 seed placed 3rd after losing first match. Pinned 4 on backside. Avery 13 seed placed 3rd.

A 67 point swing. Yowza. Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

1032004
what about Oklahoma the same year with Brewer winning the title as a 13 seed? Edited May 21, 2023 by 1032004

Perhaps for individual over achievement, but Oklahoma finished 18th with 29.5. Brewer scored 25, the other 4 wrestlers scored 4.5. Moved up to 18th. I still think 14th to 3rd is more impressive. Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge
