Best chance to upset Penn St?

It's interesting that this year's team could be one of the most dominant in individual championships or one of the least PSU individual championships in recent memory.  If Starocci and Brooks took Olympic redshirts, then Haines is your only PSU champion.  Does anyone know if Starocci is unable to compete after getting injured at the US Open?

125 - Ramos/Figueroa favored, Howard NQ
133 - Arujao/Fix favored, Nagao top 4
141 - Woods favored, Bartlett top 4 (NCAA offensive scoring was very low)
149 - Sasso/Shapiro favored, VanNess top 4
157 - Haines - real chance of winning
165 - O'Toole/Carr, Facundo/Messenbrink unlikely to win
174 - For the upset to have a chance, No Starocci - Olympic redshirt
184 - Keckeisen Favored / Truax - 2nd
197 - For the upset to have a chance, No Brooks - Olympic Redshirt
285 - Steveson returns, Kerkvliet - 3rd

I was thinking along these same lines, but then I thought, even if that scenario plays out, there are still a lot of points there for PSU. Can any other team compete with (and this is based on your exact scenario assuming Starocci and Brooks backups DNQ): NQ, 4, 4, 4, 1, NQ, DNQ, 2, DNQ, 3. Maybe an Iowa with Ferrari’s, Cornell or Mizzou having the tournaments of their life.

One other thought, and I doubt it would happen, but what if Carr or O’Toole bump to 74 to face Starocci? How does that play out? Starocci still gets AA points but fun to think about that fantasy matchup.

Carr is too small. Griffith maybe, depends on what his cut has been to maintain 165 but Starocci is every bit of 174 despite claiming he is going to make it down to 74 for OTT. KOT yes plz see ya Starocci

i am an idiot on the internet

I think with a little more transfers a combined tram of the  WolverCat BuckHawkeyes have a shot at topping Penn State.

That made me curious.

Looking at WrestleStat, it appears that Penn State would’ve favored in a dual against the B1G.

125: B1G (Ramos)
133: PSU (Nagao)
141: B1G (Woods)
149: B1G (Sasso)
157: PSU (Haines)
165: B1G (Amine)
174: PSU (Starocci)
184: PSU (Truax)
197: PSU (Brooks)
285: PSU (Kerkvliet)

That’s wild.

I'd love to see a PSU vs. Cornell dual meet.  Now that Koll is no longer at the helm at Cornell - any chance Cael would agree to it?

Until ISU did the triple bump at the Collegiate Duals, it was likely to happen.

Didn't work out, though, as ISU won the final three matches, with Devine, Coleman and Bastida all winning, up a weight.
