Vito's Dad - Vougar

Warm Up Champ

Those first two throws deserve more props than they're getting here.  Both were nasty.  The second one, I don't think I've seen one quite like it before.  I have no idea how he was able to elevate him like that.

Why are their last names different?  Similar sounds maybe but different spelling?

Not sure this is the best answer but when you immigrate to the states the name you proved sometimes doesn’t translate well from your native language. You tend to accept what the immigration official will allow you to proceed.  Miron Kkarchilava to Carson Kharchla would be a similar example.  The last names endings especially get “lost in translation.”

The interview after the 133 final on Saturday was great - Vito was so happy and relaxed with his dad, everything about it was genuine, and it was hilarious when his dad cut in to the recitation of all the feel good stuff about his support system, etc as the reason for his success and laid out the number one reason -- Genetics!

I get the kick to launch. But the leverage and strength required to get the guy hovering off the mat like a plank was remarkable.

Both Vito and his dad our amazing! Vito needs to go 61 kilos for the world 🌎 championship! He will light up Seth Gross and Fix and everyone in the world 🌎

Theirs is always someone stupid strong (at any weight). If he’s anything like his dad, he might be just fine.

Exactly.  If they're chest to chest, sure, but there was about a full foot separating their chests he just elevates him with underhooks.  How?

Just a little info here... Reiner Heugabel was a tiny guy. He was only 4'9" tall.

I remember seeing him wrestle at the '84 LA Olympics.

He was in Group B...   he wrestled Bobby Weaver( Weaver won by fall in 2:56.)

His wrestling Bio... His high point was when he won the European Title @ 48Kg in '91.

West German freestyle wrestler Reiner Heugabel finished fifth both at the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Olympics in the light-flyweight class. At Barcelona in 1992, he then represented re-unified Germany and finished sixth. He also participated at five World Championships from 1987-93 but did not enter a podium. His greatest moment came in 1991 when he won the European title. He added two more silvers in 1986 and 1994, and three bronzes in 1989, 1990 and 1992.

Heugabel also won the German national title in1980 and then, from 1982-96, he won it 15 times in a row. He was trained metal worker but later became a professional soldier in the Bundeswehr.
