Michigan Next Year?

A sixth place finish with one champion and 2 other All-Americans last weekend probably met or exceeded the expectations of most observers.  But once again, they lose five starters: Medley (125), Lewan (157), Maylor (174), Finesilver (184), and Parris (HWT).

Based on their current roster, next year's starting line-up may look like this.

125:  Kurt McHenry

133:  Dylan Ragusin

141:  Cole Mattin

149:  Chance Lamer

157:  ???

165:  Cam Amine

174:  Joseph Walker

184:  Rylan Rogers

197:  Brendan Yatooma

285:  Ira Jenkins

What should one expect from next year's team?  Does Michigan have any incoming freshmen that could start?  What about Jake Woodley or other potential transfers?

Cole Mattin and Chance Lamer had some nice wins on the backside on Friday.  Could they AA next season?

Michigan has been pretty good about pulling at least one impact wrestler each of the last two seasons, so I kind of anticipate they accomplish that again this offseason.

That said, here is what I think we are looking at next year, with the assumption that our monster recruiting class redshirts in their entirety.

125 - McHenry

Does true frosh Horwath get the nod straight away?

133 - Ragusin

141 - Nolan, Kim

Likely Nolan, but Kim will.be right there to push him.

149 - Lamer

157 - Lewan

165 - Amine

174 - Walker, Maylor

Walker was hampered by injuries towards the end there.  Maylor does have a year left.

184 - Rogers, Bullock

I think Rogers is here until (if) he outgrows the weight.

197 - Yatooma, Rogers, Bullock

I think we end up seeing Bullock up here, with the heir apparent Walters on redshirt.

285 - Jenkins

"I know actually nothing.  It isn't even conjecture at this point." - me

If academics are a big part of the decision, then I could see Griffith as transfer here if he decides to wrestle. If he is looking for a post graduate/doctoral program after coming from Stanford, then I can see Michigan being a potential landing spot.

One of him or Amine would have to go up.

Amine just won that wrestleoff.

True. I recall that Shane had indicated a desire to go 174 the first time he floated the idea of entering the portal. However, I don’t see Michigan as his landing spot.
