Starocci next year

What is Starocci planning to do next year? He’s mentioned training for the Olympics and entering MMA, but I am not clear on the timelines.

Is he done with college wrestling? Is he taking an Olympic RS? If he returns to college wrestling next year, will he move up or down to get closer to an Olympic weight?

I think he will do a Kyle Snyder type of schedule next year and get his 4th NCAA without a lot of matches. I suspect he will move on after that…just sounds like he is focused on bigger and better things. Rightfully so, no one is going to put him above Cael just because he had an opportunity to get 5 titles that few others had.

My bigger concern is the training situation between him Brooks, and DT all at the same weight. Seems like a conflict of interest

But if he goes undefeated his last 4 years you could argue he should be equal to Cael

I think that’s a bit of stretch. If he didn’t redshirt then yes, but taking a redshirt and then losing twice in his second year is not something he can erase by going undefeated in his 6th or 7th year.

Probably, was just saying one could argue it 🙂

I think he made it pretty clear he wanted to be a 4X Champ. I suspect he'll also go for 5 even if he's given conflicting comments about that.

I just think with his personality, he's going to embrace the potential to become the first 5X Champ ever.

It was interesting how Starocci minimized college wrestling in his post-match interview, like oh another NCAA title is cool and all but I'm interested in bigger things. He's said before that he wasn't interested in becoming a 5x champ but I think he'll eventually go after it too, especially when he really considers how much it'll raise his stock going into MMA.

If he decides to do a light schedule next year (or after), I hope he learns a lesson from RBY. I have a lot of respect for RBY's wrestling but it just looked like he phoned it in all season. Wrestled when he wanted, cruised through matches, did some MMA training on the side, got cocky.  He didn't really push himself to improve his wrestling and ended up paying for it in the finals last night. Cave quid volunt for Starocci.
