Lee is injured

In watching the Spencer Lee match I saw something early that was troubling. Go back and watch his movements early in the match. Sure looked like knee/leg problems as he was not moving like he usually does.  Saw it in the match and had to go back and re-watch a few times.

Having knee problems. Saw him moving as if his were bothering him. Not limping, but favoring them and not pushing hard.

Some flurries but he did not have the normal drive we have seen.

"excuses are for wusses" - and I don't expect he will be making excuses. No surprise he will Medical Forfeit out of the final day.

He is very good. Sad to see injury take him out of the race. Even when not 100% he was better than most.

Hope he heals OK and moves forward with whatever gives him the best pose Collegiate career - on or off the mat.

Was great watching him these past years.

He does not have to make excuses (he wouldn't publicly make them anyway) but he doesn't need to make them especially when all around him will be making them on his behalf.

Was he more or less injured in this tournament as compared to earlier in the season.

With my untrained eye, I thought it was up and down during the year.  Definitely a few times it looked like he was materially favoring a leg.  Other days he looked fine.  Yesterday morning he didn't look good.

One of the many crazy things about it is that despite that, he didn't look any worse last night, and was going to be ok, he had a three point lead and was in his best position, top, then couldn't ride, then it was still no real problem, he had elbow control in a position he's strong in, then inexplicably from his knees decides to lock hands with his head stuck pointing down and trapped, and as a result largely pins himself.

Bruised ego?

That's not the meanest one I've heard.

"Torn labia."

Yeah...some fans can be brutal.

I don't know if he was hurt(I'm skeptical). Does it really matter at this point? He suffered a brutal loss. He ran out of gas in the 3rd period because A-He's been so dominant, he's seldom had to go 7 minutes and B-He was coming back from two torn ACLs and that means not only could he not run, he couldn't Wrestle.

Still a 3X Champ and one of the most dominant Wrestlers we've ever seen. This was kinda what we were talking about in the thread about Penn State's Wrestlers. I get he's not a 4X Champ, but one loss isn't going to change my opinion of a Wrestler that much.

That last scramble was a little odd. The way he went to his ass there, it DID kinda look like his knee buckled...maybe.

But the roll by Ramos was just ballsy and proof of how dangerous he is. He hit that roll with just a front head. I think saying he pinned himself is taking a LOT of credit away from Ramos...but I also take your point. He could have hung on to the elbow and ridden it out.

Things were really kinda going his way going back and looking at it. He got that TD that I wasn't sure he should have gotten(Ramos hand was on the floor and I'm not sure he had control even if it wasn't). That also gave him a breather. If only for that reason, that was smart by Brands.

Ramos just wrestled a great match. He's a helluva Freestyle Wrestler. I don't remember what he's done exactly...because it's all about this upset, but I know he's had some impressive results and has been competitive with some of our top athletes.

Wouldn't surprise me.  He didn't look right Friday morning and his mental mistake Friday night kind of had a whiff of, I don't know the right word, maybe panic or confusion, which having blown out his knee again could explain.

Wonder if coming back early from surgery his freshman year contributed to his future problems?

He lost his explosive shots and scrambling ability more than 2 years ago when he injured both knees and it doesn't seem like he will ever get that back.  His body was too powerful for its own ligaments - obviously a very strong guy.

MIght be the case but everybody is beat up, hurt or injured at this point.   Excuses are for wuses.

Idiotic take. Nobody is dealing with the aftermath of double ACL surgery and all it entails

I really hope this is true.  I can't stand Iowa, but Lee has been one of my favorite wrestlers to watch the last few years and he is a once in a generational talent, but him pulling out after the loss really bugged me...not to discredit what he has already accomplished, but just wish he would have finished out the tournament.

Hmm, so it's not a knee injury most likely...  Perhaps another part of his body is injured.

I wrestled my last season with a knee injury; I could walk just fine, but to try to change direction or push off - it would just buckle.  Incredibly frustrating, because it otherwise felt fine, but could not do many of the things I would normally do.

Fwiw, a couple of the usual insiders on HR are also saying he's dealing with another serious injury. They are often smug and annoying, but their info is usually solid.

Idk about hurting it this tournament though. About a month ago, Pat Mineo tweeted that he had reinjured himself in practice. This was right after he had pinned a bunch of top guys in a row. He started wearing a second knee sleeve and his performance was definitely shakier after that.

I can't help but wonder what happens if Terry doesn't make him go under Noto. We saw this exact thing with Gilman of all people. He got turned by Picc in the quarters. In the semis against Cruz, he wrestled extremely tight and conservative and lost. Same with Spencer. He looked very uncomfortable all match out there. He just wanted to survive.

Iowa - thank you so much for the "ha ha" emoji.  Glad you find that funny - me too!  What I really find HILARIOUS is how quickly the eyeglass destroyer went viral NATIONWIDE!  Now that deserves 100,000 + "ha ha" emojis!

Make it a great day chief!

Yes, that probably explains why it was a good choice for Lee to take top in the 2nd period. Normally one could count on him getting out from bottom and reversing or taking his opponent down and putting up some points before working his tilt series.
