TexRef
It's ironic that we say wrestling is for everyone.....as long as you're not too small or too big.
ionel
No Although on second thought, with the current food price inflation maybe in ~10 years we will not to temporarily (say 5 years) drop all the weight classes down by say 10% to reflect the loss in weight of the general population due to this here high inflation era. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Edited November 9, 2022 by ionel 1
Sheerstress
Personally I would want it for that reason, although probably very unlikely to happen.
Scouts Honor
is there a glut of 110 pound college kids who want to wrestle or a glut of 400 pound blobs.... in todays culture those 400 pounders aren't gonna want to work very hard 118 might be fun to watch 400... not so much

flyingcement
Instinctively, yes I would want those divisions. I think that in order to decide on what weight classes are best - we need to see a natural weight distribution of potential wrestlers. Maybe we can buy this information from 23 and me.
Fadzaev2
I could have seen them adding the 7 pounds that first year to allow for the stricter wt. cutting....rubber suits, saunas, etc. and then after the adjustment to that, bringing back the weights minus the 7 pounds ....118, 126......197, HWT. SetonHallPirate
The weights I've been pushing for are as follows (there's a reason for them, that any HS coach in a state that uses the new 14-weights system would catch onto immediately): 125-133-141-149-157-165-175-190-215-285
bnwtwg
126-135-144-155-164-175-190-203-214-285 If the tweeners don't like it then they can just cut harder or lift more. That's what the tweeners of today are always told. Sincerely, Too big for 197 / too small for 285 who is tired of hearing "no 220er competes after HS" like yeah no shit it's because there is no point except for the blue chip elite so why waste the few precious years of my youth. If you give opportunities you would be shocked to see increased results. i am an idiot on the internet
nhs67
Kurt McHenry and Malik Heindselman say yes. They want a chance to be runner-ups to Lee at 118. 1 "I know actually nothing. It isn't even conjecture at this point." - me
flyingcement
Bobby Weaver would have done well with another weight below that - 110 or so.
mspart
They raised the weights due to a weight cutting issue. That is now gone. I think going to 118 is fine because of the strictures of how much weight is cut and all that. I don't think unlimited should be tried. You go go to 320 I suppose but those guys are football players anyway. I say just add 118. mspart
Wrestej
I don’t think either of those weight classes are needed. A 215-225 class would be good. For the bigger guys over 285 I imagine they are going to be linemen for football.
flyingcement
If there was a 215, which current guys would thrive there? Braxton Amos, Ethan Laird, Michael Beard, Tanner Sloan. Not sure how many others currently would benefit from that class but I could be missing a bunch Edited November 10, 2022 by flyingcement

Wrestej
Would have been a perfect weight for Zach Elam.

treep2000
NCAA should align with freestyle senior weights. Allows for smoother transition to world level achievements and guys can settle in weights more efficiently and effectively.

I also think Greco and Freestyle need to align as well and I think aligning the women's weights with the men's (where they are close) makes sense as well. "I know actually nothing.
