She just about gassed Bullen.
I thought she had it.

I was watching and we lost power last night.
I went outside to check the lines and saw this.

It never snows here.
30 lightning strikes, 6 big trees down, cold, cold, cold.

Damn Mike! That's work.  What's it like today?  It's been so windy here all winter I just leave my chainsaw in the house.

It's still snowing a little.

The main road through the mountains, highway 17, is closed.
Power is off and we're running the house on the generator.
Internet is TMobile/Cell and my ping to 8.8.8.8 is ~1200, which makes zoom/teams/slack meetings painful.
Tons of snow on the redwoods and ~3 inches on our driveway.
Warm enough in the house with 3 wood stoves, but it's near freezing outside right now.

Hey Mike,  How did Dom do?   I don't see any news yet.

mspart

She wrestles tonight.

She has Malgren (SWE) first match.
Tough.
If she wins that match, she has Leorda (MDA).
Also tough.

Top half either Hemmer(GER) or Ana(ROU) will make the finals.

I'll be watching and grinding my molars.

The defender should be awarded two points when they slip the offender's throw attempt and end up in control.  The 'free pass' rule allowed today is silly.

Referring to Dom's match.

just watched the match...

i will preface this by saying the correct and slip throw both can make a someone crazy because it is more subjective than not... intended to reward offensive actions and only extreme examples of defense can overcome the lens that these two instances are supposed to be looked at by the officials as per design...

based on that point of reference, i was ok with that call...

one of the major points of emphasis in the last couple of years has been was par terre earned and i don't feel like in that instance it was...

correct and slips have helped greco just based on the overly technical nature of the sport and how fine the margins really are at the pointy end...

i do not feel they are as necessary in the other styles and if they were kicked to the curb in those it would not bother me at all...

Dom seemed more defensive minded in the match against Malgren.  On that first takedown defense, she got her hips back and squared up well.  It looked like she cross faced across the forehead and top of the head.  It looked like if she snaked her thumb down her inside hip she might have reached into Malgren's nose and convinced her to go a different direction.  On that first throw she defended, it should have been 2 pts for Dom.  In a later take down defense, Malgren got in deep and had a head outside shot.  It was another opportunity to separate Malgren's head from her shoulders to get her hips back.

Have these two wrestled before?  I'm wondering if Dom was consciously more defensive or if her setups were not working.  She's been more committed and aggressive on shot attempts in the past.  Malgren's pretty good though...

Malmgren's solid.
They've never met prior.
At worlds, Malmgren was beating MGL (who took silver) 8-2 when she got tossed and stuck.

Malmgren's second match, she was clearly gassed from wrestling Dom.

The part that stuck out to me is that Dom's setups weren't moving Malmgren.

in case anyone has not figured it out yet...

wrestling is hard...

like the hardest thing any of the rest of us could realistically conceptualize...

ever...

nothing but respect for any athlete that competes...
