No IOWA OSU topic?

I am traveling and BTN won't allow me to watch the match off my cable package remotely so I am left to radio.  Grace and Ironside are a nice team together and very pleasant but, geez, they literally don't seem to understand the basic necessities of a radio broadcast.  It's like watching the match with two cool buddies commenting.  Except I'm not watching, all I've got is their commentary, which only occasionally includes painting a verbal picture of the match, or mentioning things like scores, time, who's doing what move, etc.  It would be perfect to listen to synced up to a TV broadcast. But alas.

If you want to understand what is going on in a dual, their commentary is lacking for sure.    Not my favorite broadcast team.

Just catching up on the match, but stalling is the dumbest call we have. How do you call Brands for stalling? He’s standing dead center of the mat, never backs up, and is hand fighting for days. Doesn’t hang onto an inside collar tie to block off and presents himself the entire 3rd period. It isn’t his fault Plott won’t take a shot until 10 seconds left.

I don’t even like Iowa and I know that was lazy on the official.

It's too bad.  Sometimes Grace does a real play by play and it's quite good, so that means they just choose not to for large swaths of the dual.  One of the matches they just yakked for well over a minute at the beginning of the match without even saying that it had started.  You could guess by the background noise that it probably had but didn't know for sure until they mentioned as an aside during their conversation that the wrestler guys who the 15,000 people were there to watch were wrestling.

Ironside's the GOAT

If you cut him I literally believe he'd bleed black and gold.

I think he's the closest to an embodiment of Gable, more than the Brands or anyone else.  The way he wrestled. And the way he thinks and talks, he has that plain, guileless way of expressing himself - it's striking.

Nelson Brands hand fighting is elite. He will be in matches with anyone because of it. Would not be surprised to see him make an AA run.

He plays a smart game. His hand-fighting is elite (because of great conditioning and those angry Brands genes).

I would also argue that his reattacks are super-elite.

He will shoot against popsicles, but against really good opponents, he waits until you shoot first. His reattacks are amazingly quick. So, it is the smart play for him, but it also means a lot of sweaty palms and 3-2 decisions against really good wrestlers.

I know they outclassed OSU in every position, but I was particularly impressed with their reattacks. I say "particularly impressed" bc it's hella difficult to reattack when your opponent doesn't shoot and just stands there and looks at you. So, they just pulled the trigger when the Cowboy attempted a half-assed snap, e.g. Assad.

serious question Fix v Teske

at some point ithink first period after a td? or maybe 2nd and fix was on top. fix is on top and they are in a scramble and fix dives at ankles etc...

the ref almost immediately counts, and there is a stall but fix doens't care b/c end of period and he stayed in control

Then the next period teske on top and the same type of situation happens and teske on ankles... no count for about 20 seconds... he finally does count and gives the stall warning. but allowed it for a long time before the count.

what was the difference in the situations...?

anyone else see this?

In case we forgot, John Smith still hates his team.

That is the way he coaches.  I remember planting myself behind him in Reno  more than 10 years ago to soak in his wisdom.   He spent the match enumerating how much money he wasted paying for the guys trip.

Seems mindless to me, but can't argue his success.
