Many years ago, rural areas of King County WA (where Seattle is) wanted to secede and create Cedar County. It ultimately is up to the Legislature and they were unwilling to listen. It would be the opposite of the gerrymandering the right is such a fan of. They would lose any influence they have on the presidential or senatorial races.
