California high school wrestling season moved to spring

The California high school wrestling season has been moved to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Interscholastic Federation announced Monday.

The CIF's fall sports, like football, have been moved to the winter, while winter sports, which includes wrestling, will have their seasons pushed back to spring, with the state championships set for June.

"We are continuously monitoring the directives and guidelines released from the Governor's Office, the California Department of Education, the California Department of Public Health, and local county health departments and agencies as these directives and guidelines are followed by our member schools/school districts with student health and safety at the forefront,” the organization said in a statement.

COVID-19 cases continue to rise in California. On Monday, Gavin Newsom ordered all counties in the state to close bars and the indoor operations of businesses.
