Zillmer picks up 100th win as NDSU levels Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- North Dakota State University won nine of 10 matches including 184-pounder Hayden Zillmer's 100th career win and four pins to defeat Grand Canyon University 45-3 in a non-conference dual Sunday, Feb. 7 in Antelope Gymnasium.

NDSU (3-5, 2-1 Big 12) is scheduled to host the University of Northern Iowa (3-9, 2-5 MAC) in a non-conference dual at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Zillmer, a senior from Crosby, Minn. (Crosby-Ironton H.S.), built an 11-1 lead heading into the third period before recording his ninth pin of the season to become the 10th wrestler in program history to reach the career milestone and the third during the Division I era joining All-Americans Steve Monk and Trent Sprenkle.

The fifth-ranked Zillmer improved to 26-3 this season including a 8-0 in duals to push that streak to 24. His career record stands at 100-27.

"Hayden's a guy who leads by example in our room and in his personal life. He's a natural leader. Our guys look up to him and his work ethic. His success really showcases that," said NDSU head coach Roger Kish.
