PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The 21st-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team picked up a big conference win on Friday evening, rolling to a 38-6 victory over the Pioneers of UW-Platteville.
Trevor Spears (Muscoda, WI/Riverdale) took to the mat at 141-pounds with the Pointers holding a 6-3 lead and posted a 13-3 major decision over Jose Collado.
John Roycraft (Omro, WI/Winneconne) put the Pointers in front 16-3 with a pin at 149-pounds in 1:52. Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford) followed at 157 with a pin over Aaric Spencer at 157 to give UWSP the 22-3 edge. Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) made it three wins in a row, posting an 8-2 decision over Trenton Larson at 165-pounds, putting UWSP in front 25-3.
After a UWP win at 174, Andy Borchardt (Edgar, WI/Edgar) posted a pin at 184-pounds to put the Pointers in front 31-6 and Dustin Wozniak (Stanley, WI/Stanley-Boyd) and Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) closed out the match with wins of 4-0 and 9-0, respectively, giving the Pointers the 32-point win.
UW-Stevens Point (4-5, 1-2 WIAC) returns to action in the new year, heading east to Williamsport, PA for the Bud Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming College.
