Izzy Balsiger gave UW-L a 5-0 lead after the 125-pound match with a technical fall (20-5, 4:50) over Augsburg's Blong Kong. Balsiger improved to 21-2 on the season. Augsburg cut the deficit to 5-3 as Tossaporn Suparat won by decision (7-0) over James Bennett at 133.
The Eagles' Adam Sheley, ranked fourth in the NWCA at 141-pounds, made it 10-3 as he earned a technical fall victory (15-0, 3:13) over the Auggies' Tom Kuehn. Sheley is now 17-1 on the year.
Augsburg's Rashad Kennedy then won by decision (8-6) over Keegan Einerson at 149-pounds to make it 10-6, but UW-L's JR Lewis, ranked eighth in the nation at 157, won by decision (4-1) over Kurt Knutsen to give the Eagles a 13-6 lead. Lewis improved to 17-2.
The Auggies' Justin Bowland cut the lead to 13-9 with a win by decision (10-3) over Sean Huls at 165-pounds, but the Eagles took the next two matches to lead 20-9. At 174-pounds, 10th-ranked Kevin O'Brien earned a win by decision (3-1) over Josh Kohl and Eric Twohey won by major decision (9-1) over Noel Sweeney at 184. O'Brien improved to 10-3 while Twohey is now 22-6.
Augsburg took the final two matches to make it 20-16. Matt Hechsel won by decision (5-3) over Tony Piechowski at 197-pounds and Chad Johnson won by major decision (10-2) over Cody Endres at 285. Johnson is the top-ranked wrestler in Division III at 285-pounds.
UW-L returns to action Sunday, February 17 at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Dual Championships at UW-Eau Claire.
