    UNI defeats Missouri to capture MAC dual meet title

    COLUMBIA, Mo. -- UNI wrestling cranked out wins in the first three matches to roll win the regular-season MAC title and roll No. 7 Missouri, 25-10.

    It was UNI's second regular-season MAC title, stealing it from Missouri, which has earned it since joining the conference in 2014.

    UNI's Jared Bartel returned to the mat for the first time since Nov. 18 after starting the season in two duals at 197 pounds. Bartel moved up a weight to wrestle his first career match at heavyweight and knocked off Austin Meyers, 4-3.

    Jay Schwarm kept the momentum drawing multiple stall points against Barlow McGhee, the reigning MAC champion, to get the 5-1 decision at 125 pounds. McGhee is a 2016 NCAA national qualifier.

    At 133 pounds, No. 10 Josh Alber got his fourth win against a top-20 opponent with a decision over No. 12 John Erneste, 5-3.

    Mizzou slowed the momentum with a win from No. 11 Jaydin Eierman at 141 pounds before No. 9 Max Thomsen avenged a 4-2 loss from earlier this year to the MAC leader No. 2 Lavion Mayes. Thomsen beat Mayes, a three-time NCAA qualifier, two-time All-American, 9-2.

    No. 5 Joey Lavalle would give the Tigers their second win an 8-3 decision over Paden Moore at 157 pounds.

    Wins at the next two weights secured the Panther victory, but UNI would get three consecutive wins.

    No. 11 Bryce Steiert got his biggest win of the season by avenging a loss with a fall over No. 6 Daniel Lewis. Lewis won the MAC last year and took fourth at the NCAA tournament. He beat Steiert at the Southern Scuffle earlier this year. The last seven of Steiert's eight wins have come with bonus points.

    No. 14 Taylor Lujan notched his fifth major decision with a 14-3 win over No. 32 Dylan Wisman.

    It was Drew Foster's sixth consecutive win with a dec. over Missouri's Lemanowicz at 184 pounds.

    The final match went to Missouri's No. 1 J'den Cox who won a bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympic Games.

    UNI will host the MAC tournament in the McLeod Center March 4-5. Entry to the national qualifying tournament is free to those who purchased season tickets.

    Admission is not included for those with complimentary season tickets.
