Two forfeits and bonus points lift American

WASHINGTON -- The American University wrestling team took advantage of two forfeits and bonus points from No. 4 Muzaffar Abdurakhmanov's (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) pin victory in defeating EIWA rival Harvard, 24-19 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Eagles have won seven of their last eight duals and move to 9-5 on the year.

The match started with two forfeits from Harvard - at 125 and 133 - and another from American - at 141 - to put the match at 12-6 in the Eagles' favor. Senior Tom Kniezewski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) widened the gap to 15-6 with his 17th win of the year, a 3-1 decision over Bobby Latessa. After Christopher Stout (Hackettstown, N.J./Blair Academy) dropped an 11-5 match to Andrew Flanagan, Abdurakhmanov gave AU a valuable six points with his first period pin of Patrick Ziemnik, just 14 seconds into the match. The senior is 17-0 on the year with five pins in his last nine matches, which were all won with bonus points.

American's Dwayne Hash-Barberis (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia Glenville) and Anthony Fuschino (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) dropped matches at 174 and 184 to put the score at 21-16 with Tyler Flatt (Albany, N.Y./Blair Academy) up at 197. The sophomore came through for the Eagles with the 8-4 decision for his second straight win to seal the victory for the Eagles.

Despite that fact, the day's last and only match featuring two ranked wrestlers went to double overtime with No. 10 Adam LoPiccolo (Glen Rock, Pa./Glen Rock) dropping a 4-3 decision to No. 8 Bode Ogunwole. The loss snaps the AU sophomore's five match win streak.

American brings its momentum to the mat next weekend as they host EIWA foe Navy in Bender Arena Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
