Two ranked wrestlers helped Upper Iowa (6-4-1) to a quick 7-0 lead. Seventh-ranked Tyler Mumbulo started the dual with a 12-0 major decision over Allen Stokes at 125 pounds. Ralph Acosta, ranked eighth at 133 pounds, earned a 10-5 decision over Dan Keller.
Truman State (10-3-1) got on the board when Adam Vogt picked up a 9-3 decision over UIU's Layne Greedy at 141 pounds. The Bulldogs took a 9-7 lead after Chad Swagman pinned Cory Schmitz in 5:18. Dustin Teeman picked up a 13-4 major decision over Brandon Heying at 157 pounds. Eighth-ranked Blake Peterson continued Truman's roll with a 17-6 major decision over Brady Hakeman for a 16-7 TSU lead.
C.J. MacNaught snapped the Bulldogs' four-match winning streak by taking a forfeit win at 174 pounds.
Gregg Nurrenbern immediately put Truman back in the driver's seat with a 22-13 lead by pinning Tony Gehling in 2:51. Nurrenbern is the second-ranked 184-pounder in the country.
Peacock Matt Norton cut the team deficit to 22-17 following his 19-11 major decision over Steven Doeschot at 197 pounds. Upper Iowa heavyweight Brian Black dominated Loyde Doeschot but was unable to do enough for UIU to overtake TSU. His 11-4 decision gave each team five wins, but let Truman State escape with a 22-20 victory.
The Peacock wrestlers now prepare for the Regional Tournament Sunday, Feb. 26, in Omaha, Neb.
