Each year, this honor is awarded to the nation's top collegiate freshman wrestler, and is determined by a vote of InterMat writers and executives.
Stieber joins a stellar list of InterMat Freshman of Year honorees. Last year, David Taylor of Penn State received the award. Other past honorees include Cornell's Kyle Dake (2010), Wisconsin's Andrew Howe (2009), Cornell's Mike Grey (2008), Iowa State's Jake Varner (2007), and Minnesota's Dustin Schlatter (2006).
Stieber won this year's award going away. He received all 10 of the first-place votes, for a total of 90 points. Minnesota's Dylan Ness, an NCAA runner-up at 149 pounds, came in second in the balloting with 52 points. In third place was Nico Megalaudis of Penn State, 125-pound NCAA runner-up, with 39 points. Logan Stieber's brother and Ohio State teammate Hunter Stieber, an All-American at 141 pounds, finished fourth in the balloting with 16 points. Another Buckeye All-American, Cam Tessari, rounded out the top five with 14 points.
Logan Stieber, Hunter Stieber, and Cam Tessari all attended Monroeville High School in Ohio.

"We knew the day we signed Logan Stieber, the program would move forward in a mighty way," Ohio State coach Tom Ryan said after Stieber claimed the NCAA title on March 17. "It is a tremendous statement for the program that a young person can come in and excel so rapidly at this level. We are so happy."
