    Stevens blanks Yeshiva

HOBOKEN, N.J. -- In the second home match of the 2011-12 season for the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team, the Ducks shutout Yeshiva University, 53-0, on Wednesday night, November 16, in Walker Gymnasium. Stevens recorded five victories by way of fall, including the last three bouts of the night. With the win, the Ducks improve their dual record to 4-0 this year and also have a tournament win to their credit.

Stevens began the dual with six points awarded to freshman Anthony Geiger (South Amboy, N.J.) at the 125-lb. weight class with a forfeit victory.

Fellow freshman Mike Polizzi (Montville, N.J.) tallied the first pin for the Ducks, taking down Gedalia Romanoff in 18 seconds in 133.

Sophomore Michael DiLiello (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) went all three periods with Amichai Levy and scored a 12-2 major decision victory at 141. At 149, fellow sophomore CJ Caserta (Mt. Alrington) registered the second fall for Stevens, pinning Samuel Lamm in 2:42.

Another forfeit win went to junior Ryan Owens (Fallston, Md.) at 157, before freshman Mike Otsuka (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) came away with a hard-fought 6-1 decision against Eli Fuld in 165.

In the 174 showdown, junior Ryan Dormann (Mickleton, N.J.) took down Michael Alpert four times in the first period en route to a 13-3 major decision triumph.

The final three bouts all went to the Ducks with pins by junior Jason Nowakoski (Jackson, N.J), and freshmen Chris Florek (Mendham, N.J.) and Tyler Maher (Raleigh, N.C.). Nowakoski took care of Boris Shulkin at 184, just before the first period ended in 2:57, while Florek scored his fall over Jacob Fiskus in 0:56 at 197. Maher wrapped up the match for Stevens with a 31-second pin of Jacob Novikov in the heavyweight bout.

The Ducks will travel to Springfield, Mass. to take part in the Doug Parker Invitational on November 19. Stevens will look to win its second straight tournament of the early season before returning back to Castle Point on the 30th for a dual against Hunter College at 7 p.m.
