After dropping the first three matches, Stanford won six of the final seven bouts to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Tigers drop to 5-6.
Trailing 12-6, Fox, a redshirt sophomore, pinned Mike D'Angelo in 4:16 at 157 pounds to knot up the score 12-12. It was the third fall of the year for Fox, who moves to 17-10 overall. A 12-2 major decision by 18th-ranked Keaton Subjeck over freshman Riley DeMoss at 165 pounds gave the Cardinal its first dual lead at 16-12. Subjeck posted four takedowns, two stalling points, an escape and three-plus minutes of riding time in the win. The redshirt junior is now 13-4 overall and 4-0 in duals this season.
Galli sealed the win for Stanford by knocking off No. 16 Jon Schleifer, 5-3, in sudden victory. Leading 1-0 after two, Schleifer tied it up in the third with an escape. Galli then scored a takedown before a scramble resulted in a reversal for Schleifer, tying the match 3-3 at the end of regulation. Galli finished off Schleifer in overtime, being awarded a takedown after another good scramble.Galli is now 2-0 at 174 pounds this season and 16-4 overall.
Redshirt junior Connor Schram, ranked 14th at 133 pounds, scored the first points of the dual for Stanford. He recorded a 3-2 decision over Pat D'Arcy to cut Princeton's dual lead to 9-3. Schram, who hasn't competed since Dec. .18, scored a first period takedown and led 2-1 after the opening frame. D'Arcy earned an escape to start the second, but Schram's escape at the beginning of the third earned him the win. Schram moves to 9-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in duals.
In a match-up of top 5 opponents, Stanford's No. 3 Joey McKenna dominated No. 4 Matthew Kolodzik with a 4-0 decision. McKenna, who is now 19-1 on the season, scored a takedown in the first 22 seconds of the dual and finished the opening period with 2:42 of riding time. He notched an escape in the second and then rode out Kolodzik in the third to finish with 4:25 riding time.
Redshirt senior Zach Nevills capped off the scoring for the Cardinal shutting out Ian Baker, 3-0, at 184 pounds. There was no score after the first and Baker chose down to start the second. Nevils recorded a reversal in the second and then chose top to start the third. Nevills rode out Baker for his first win of the season.
Princeton jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the dual as No. 20 Josh Marchok fell in a 5-3 decision to 12th-ranked Brett Harner at 197 pounds. At heavyweight, No. 10 Nathan Butler was upset 3-1 in overtime by Princeton's Ray O'Donnell. Butler had O'Donnell on the edge with less than 20 seconds remaining in the third in what would have been called a takedown, but the referee called it out of bounds.
The Tigers added to their lead at 125 pounds as Ty Agaisse held off No. 14 Gabriel Townsell, 3-2. Agaisse's takedown late in the first period proved to be the difference. Trailing 3-0 after two, Townsell earned the escape to start the third and was awarded a stalling point, but was unable to score a takedown in the final period.
Princeton took a 12-6 lead in the dual after 17th-ranked Jordan Laster tallied a 9-2 decision over Tommy Pawelski at 149 pounds. Pawelski drops to 3-4 on the season.
Stanford will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 15. The Cardinal will head to Philadelphia to wrestle Drexel at 10 a.m. PT and Penn at 12 p.m. PT.
