The Oaks (10-9 dual) dropped into an early deficit with a 7-1 loss from freshman Mike Rodriguez at 125 pounds before Sanchez, rated sixth at 133 pounds by the NAIA, knotted the match, 3-3, with a 9-5 victory against the Raiders' Barry Johnson. Roman then pushed Menlo's advantage to 9-3 with a pin of the SOU's Nick Ripsom at the six-minute, 49-second mark.
Southern Oregon's Jimmy Ulrey cut into the Oaks' lead with an 8-4 defeat of Charles Hinriksson at 149. Bickford, the fifth-ranked wrestler at 157 pounds, provided Menlo a brief reprieve with a 6-0 decision against Jason Appleton.
Leading 12-6, however, Menlo saw the next five bouts go the Raiders' way. Jimmy Grochowsky, the nation's top wrestler at 165 pounds, handed Menlo junior Mike Wheeler a 16-7 major decision loss before Josh Fitzgerald downed Jon Sanchez, 7-1, at 174.
At 184, the Raiders' Rick Story pinned Jesse Vazquez in 51 seconds while Eddie Conner fell, 7-3, at 197 and heavyweight Trevor Blackwelder lost a 4-1 decision for the Oaks.
With the victory, SOU completed a season sweep of Menlo after winning the first leg, 33-11, in Atherton on Dec. 16.
Menlo next hits the mats Feb. 3 at NCAA Division I Cal State Fullerton. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
