South Dakota takes steps to officially add girls division to next year's state championships

Next year will likely see the start of SDHSAA-sanctioned girls' wrestling in South Dakota schools according to the the Rapid City Journal. The first reading approving the new sport was taken Tuesday by the South Dakota High School Activities Association's board of directors which governs school extracurricular activities like sports.

Last year, without a separate girls' division, nearly 40 females competed in SDHSAA-sanctioned wrestling meets. About another 100 girls competed in club-only events.
