Simon Fraser captured the WCWA title It was McLatchy's first WCWA title.
Three Clan wrestlers earned their third WCWA National Championship as Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, CA) won at 109 pounts, Helen Maroulis (Rockville, MD) won at 130 and Danielle Lappage (Olds, AB) won at 160.
Maroulis, a 2012 world silver medalist for the United States, was named Outstanding Wrestler after defeating 2012 WCWA National Champion Shauna Isbell of Lindenwood in the finals, 1-0, 2-0.
Repeating as WCWA National Champion at 170 pounds was the Clan's Justina DiStasio (Port Moody, BC).
Winning her first title at 143 pounds for Simon Fraser was Sidney Morrison (Ucluelet, BC), who beat number two ranked Stephaine Geltmacher of Oklahoma City.
Clan head coach Mike Jones received Coach of the Year honours.
"We have been chasing these guys a long time, so it is extremely exciting," Jones told themat.ca. "In fact, I am probably as emotional about it as any of our championships along the way. The kids did a great job wrestling. We had to win every match in the finals to win it and we ended up doing that. It came down to the heavyweights, which is not what we really wanted to see, but it was exciting and we came out on top this time."
Darby Huckle (Sarnia, ON) and Nikki Brar (Abbotsford, BC) also won bronze for SFU at 103-pounds and 116-pounds respectively.
