In the third round he racked up a major decision with a 22-8 win over unattached Russel Lumley before having a techical fall (18-3) over Frankie Schoonover of Dickinson State in the semifinals. He continued to roll as he got a major decision over Morningside's Matt Gustafson, 20-8, to win the tournament.
