The Wrestle-Offs served as the final competition of a week of battles to determine the starting positions for the RU wrestling team. The event also served as the competitive debut for several Scarlet Knight wrestlers including transfers Alex Caruso (174 pounds) and Mario Mason (149 pounds).
In a match with Mike Cucinotta, Caruso secured a 12-5 victory by using a variety of takedowns and solid riding. Mason also secured a victory in his debut with a 7-4 decision over Joe Mcauley. Mason showed his quickness throughout the match and secured a pair of solid takedowns.
Also making his Scarlet Knight debut was 197-pound freshman Mike Wagner who downed Dan Hopkins, 7-5, in a hard fought match.
Scott Winston made his return to the mat after a redshirt season last year. Winston rolled in his first match back earning a tech. fall over Evan Brewer, 25-7.
A trio of returning NCAA participants, DJ Russo, Dan Rinaldi and Daryl Cocozzo, also earned victories. All three earned decisions of at least five points.
Dan Seidenberg, Matt Fusco, Braden Turner, David Greenwald and Greg Zannetti also picked up victories at the Wrestle-Offs.
The Scarlet Knights open their regular season on Sunday, Nov. 7, when they welcome Sacred Heart and East Stroudsburg to The RAC for a double dual.
