Five Scarlet Knights captured bonus point wins Friday evening, beginning at the top of the lineup with freshman 125-pounder Brandon Paetzell. Paetzell tied Kegan Calkins up in a cradle midway through the third period for his 11th win and first dual pin.
Two matches later, No. 6-ranked 141-pounder Anthony Ashnault tallied his fourth major decision of the season, 15-2, against NCAA qualifier Jonathan Hathaway to improve to 17-3. Thirteen of Ashnault's wins this season have been by bonus points.
No. 14 149-pounder Ken Theobold and 174-pounder Phillip Bakuckas recorded the lone tech falls on the night in their matchups. Collectively, the two redshirt seniors outscored the opposition, 34-2, as Theobold snapped a three-match skid and Bakuckas bounced back from a pair of ranked losses to move to 11-5.
No. 14 Nicholas Gravina rode the momentum from the Bakuckas win and neared tech fall territory in the third period, but instead planted Bob Coleman on his back for the fall. He moves to 13-4 overall.
Early in the match Scott DelVecchio topped two-time NCAA qualifier Joseph Palmer by a 6-2 final and is now 15-6 overall. No. 18 John Van Brill closed out a 10-3 win against Abraham Rodriguez with a four-point near fall as time expired to win for the second time in three matches.
Competing in his first dual of the year was redshirt senior 165-pounder Anthony Pafumi. Pafumi toughed out a 4-0 win against Rodney Williams to draw even at 9-9 this season.
The biggest win of the night was the final one for the Scarlet Knights, as freshman Matthew Correnti topped No. 18 Corey Griego, 3-2, at 197 pounds for the first ranked win of his career.
Correnti escaped in the third period to take a 3-2 lead and did enough to keep Griego in check late. With less than 30 seconds remaining Griego took a shot and nearly wrapped up both of the freshman's legs, but Correnti fought it off. Correnti is now 10-7.
Heavyweight Razohnn Gross was edged, 4-2, in a tight bout with NCAA qualifier Cody Crawford. Crawford held riding time late in a 3-2 match and defended Gross to secure the win.
Purdue (8-2, 3-1) visits the RAC on Sunday at noon. The dual will stream live on BTN Plus, with Lou Brogno and Sean DeDeyn on the call.
