Cornell dominated the second half of the dual, winning the first four matches, including a neutral fall for fourth-ranked Realbuto against sixth-ranked Ryan Preisch. The senior had Preisch in a dangerous position during a scramble and the Mountain Hawk's shoulders squared off for the fall. Moments later, Dean stuck his 14th opponent in 20 starts, thoroughly dominating against Andrew Price before putting him away 22 seconds into the second period. That win gave the Big Red its first lead at 18-17.
Ben Honis used an escape and a stalling point on Ben Haas to win at 197 to extend the team lead to 21-17 before Sweany was taken down in sudden victory by 18th-ranked Doug Vollaro. The result wasn't enough for the home team in front of a sold-out crowd.
Cornell's lone win in the first half of the match was Mark Grey's 6-4 win over Joe Lobeck at 133, though Will Koll gave 11th-ranked Randy Cruz all he could handle in a 1-0 loss at 141.
The win avenged Lehigh's 25-13 win over the Big Red last season in Ithaca to end a 47-match win streak against EIWA opponents. The Mountain Hawks lead the all-time series 60-32-3, though Cornell is 6-1 over the last seven meetings. The two teams have combined to win 17 of the last 18 EIWA titles, with the last 10 going to Cornell.
The Big Red returns home to face Lock Haven on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Friedman Wrestling Center.
