Central Michigan, who entered the event ranked 10th, had perhaps the most disappointing morning session as two of its top wrestlers, Scotti Sentes (133) and Mike Miller (165), were upset in the round 16. Sentes, who is ranked sixth, was edged, 4-3, by Michigan's Zac Stevens. Miller, an NCAA runner-up in 2009, lost 7-1 to Cal State Bakersfield's Trevor Hall.
No. 1 Cornell leads the team race with 48 points and has six wrestlers in the quarterfinals. Oklahoma sits in second with 39 points five in the quarterfinals. Boise State is in third with 34.5 points and four in the quarterfinals. Michigan, Oregon State, and Wisconsin are all tied for fourth with 34 points. Illinois advanced the most wrestlers to the quarterfinals with seven.
The quarterfinals are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. PST.
