Princeton improved to 8-6 overall with the win and clinched second place outright in the Ivy League with a 4-1 mark. The Tigers will conclude their regular season next weekend when they return to Philadelphia for a Saturday showdown at Drexel.
With Princeton leading 6-3, nationally ranked wrestlers Matthew Kolodzik (No. 2) and Anthony Artalona (No. 13) took the mat for the highlight showdown at 149. Kolodzik got the scoring going with a quick takedown off a restart in the first period, but Artalona evened the score with escapes in the first and second period.
Artalona gave the Palestra a quick jolt with a single-leg takedown, but Kolodzik scored a reversal within seconds to even the score at 4-4. Artalona escaped, and Kolodzik matched it in the third period to even the match at 5-5 heading into the final seconds. For some, that would be a moment of pressure, but Kolodzik has shown time and again an ability to get the final takedown when he needs it most.
Kolodzik's takedown with 25 seconds remaining secured a 7-5 win, and freshman Quincy Monday followed with a 10-5 win at 157 to become the only Princeton wrestler to go a perfect 5-0 in the Ivy League.
A tight 2-1 win by Leonard Merkin at 165 opened the floodgates for Princeton, which got major decisions from both Travis Stefanik and Kevin Parker, followed by a technical fall for third-ranked Patrick Brucki, to put together another dominant Princeton win.
