At UCD (4-7, 2-3), Larson - ranked second in the Pac-10 - took a 7-3 decision over top-ranked Derek Moore, who was also ranked seventh nationally in the National Wrestling Coaches Association/InterMat poll. Larson scored a takedown and two-point near-fall in the third period to erase a 3-2 deficit, then added a point for riding time to secure his 11th straight win and improve to 21-4 this season with three pins.
The other potential one-two matchup in the Pac-10 rankings never materialized, at 174 pounds between OSU's top-ranked Jeremy Larson and UCD's second-ranked Ken Cook. Larson received a forfeit, pushing his win streak to 10 matches and upping his record to 22-8; he is ranked 18th and Cook is ranked eighth.
OSU's two other nationally ranked wrestlers picked up wins. Tony Hook, ranked 16th at 157 pounds, had to go three overtimes to edge UCD's Jon Clark 5-4 to improve to 17-7 this season. Beaver heavyweight Ty Watterson, ranked 17th, picked up his fifth straight win with a 10-1 decision over the Aggies' Evan Hendrix to move his record to 24-7 with eight pins.
Oregon State 125-pounder Eric Stevenson kept the team lead in victories this season with his fifth straight win, beating Marcos Orozco 9-1 to go to 25-7 with four pins. OSU 133-pounder Bobby Pfennigs has won all six of his matches since coming back from an injury after beating Omar Gaitan 9-3; Gaitain is ranked fourth in the conference while Pfennigs is unranked.
The Beavers also got victories from Orlando Perez with a technical fall at 149 pounds, Anthony Weber with a decision at 165 pounds and Dan Pitsch with a decision at 197 pounds.
