    Oregon State rolls to victory at Northern Colorado

    GREELEY, Colo. -- The Oregon State wrestling team got things back on track on Friday night with a nonconference dual win inside of Bank of Colorado Arena at Northern Colorado.

    The Beavers (2-3, 1-0 Pac-12) ended a three match losing streak with a 27-12 decision win over the Bears (2-5, 0-3 Big 12) in the 30th all-time meeting between the two programs.

    The evening began at the 125-pound weight class featuring two ranked wrestlers in No. 3 Ronnie Bresser and No. 17 Rico Montoya of Northern Colorado. Bresser exploded at the start of the match with a single-leg takedown. Bresser added a second takedown at the end of the first period, and never looked back on the way to an 11-5 decision win.

    Kegan Calkins was tabbed for the start at 133 pounds against Sean Cannon Jr. Calkins fell in a 2-0 hole early in the match, but used a 6-point second period taking the lead. A third period takedown iced the match and a 9-4 decision victory for Calkins.

    141 pounds provided some fireworks as Grant Willits came from behind late in the third period to claim the third straight win in the dual for the Beavers. Trailing 9-4 late in the match Willits secured a reversal holding Chris Sandoval for a near fall before securing the pin and a 12-0 team lead for Oregon State.

    Oregon State suffered its first loss of the dual at 149 pounds. Josh Reyes found himself tied 9-9 late in the match with Armando Santillan (UNC), but lost after a late takedown which ended in a pin for UNC.

    The last bout before the midway break came at 157 pounds between Oregon State's No. 17 Hunter Willits and UNC's Jordan Robison. Willits used three first period takedowns building a lead that couldn't be surmounted en route to a 10-4 decision.

    The Beavers led 15-6 at the halftime intermission.


    The dual resumed at 165 pounds out of the midway break between Aaron Olmos and Macoy Flanagan of Norther Colorado. Olmos trailed 2-1 after the first period, and used a second-period escape tying the match at 2-2. However, a late takedown from the opposition resulted in a 6-3 decision loss for Oregon State.

    OSU got back to the winning ways at 174 pounds thanks Colt Doyle. Doyle controlled the match from the opening whistle claiming two first period takedowns. The San Diego native used a second and third period takedown securing the match for a major decision, 10-2.

    The Bears of Northern Colorado claimed another victory at 184 pounds. Dalton Robertson (UNC) used a 6-2 decision over Bob Coleman for the third and final win of the night for Northern Colorado.

    Jamarcus Grant picked up his first dual win of the season at 197 pounds; Grant had been wrestling at the heavyweight class up until this point. Grant and Trent Schultz (UNC) wrestled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Grant got in deep on a single-leg in the first sudden victory period finishing the shot for a 3-1 decision win.

    No. 4 Amar Dhesi cruised to a victory in the final bout of the evening. Dhesi used nine takedowns and a near fall securing the 22-7 technical fall over Robert Winters Jr and his first win back with the Beavers.

    Oregon State won the dual by a final score of 27-12.
