The Beavers (5-4) won 8 of 10 matches and scored eight bonus points on two falls and two major decisions. The victory also avenged a 21-17 loss to the Cowboys in Laramie in 2015, OSU's only regular-season setback.
Redshirt sophomore Cody Crawford (197) started the match with a pin and the Beavers were off and running. They led 20-0 before the Cowboys (1-5) broke through at 141 and 159 with their lone wins of the afternoon.
“Crawford getting that pin was big†and set the tone for the afternoon, said Zalesky, whose team's victory at then-No. 16 Central Michigan on Jan. 9 fueled OSU's return to the Top 25 for the first time since Dec. 8.
“That's maybe the best we've wrestled overall, from individual to individual, as far as intensity, attacking and setting the pace of the matches. It's always easier when you win to keep getting better.
“The things we are working on in practice I see us applying in competition. We just have to keep getting better in certain situations and keep wrestling like we are right now.â€
Crawford and senior Seth Thomas (165) had pins. Thomas trailed 6-0 in the first period before he rallied for a fall at the 5:00 mark.
Sophomore Ronnie Bresser (125) and redshirt junior Joey Palmer (133) followed up redshirt sophomore Amarveer Dhesi's with at heavyweight with major decisions for an insurmountable 17-0 advantage after four bouts.
“Dhesi went out and got a good score, Bresser and Palmer put a lot of points on the board … we got some momentum in those first four weight classes and it carried over,†Zalesky said.
Redshirt junior Joey Delgado (149), redshirt sophomore Tyler Chay (174) and redshirt freshman Corey Griego (184) also prevailed by decision.
Bresser (No. 6 InterMat) and Dhesi (9) defeated ranked opponents, Drew Templeman (15) and Tanner Harms (19), respectively.
The Beavers were the fifth-straight ranked opponent for Wyoming, which competes in the Big 12 Conference. They are 0-5 in that stretch, with losses to Iowa State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Nebraska, the lone common opponent thus far, in addition to Saturday's loss.
The Beavers are idle next week. They open their Pacific-12 Conference season at Arizona State at 4 p.m. Jan. 29 in a dual that will be televised by the Pac-12 Network. Their next home meet is Jan. 31 against Northern Colorado.
