The Monarchs (6-8, 2-2 in MAC) have won their last two MAC dual matches and last three dual matches, after defeating Buffalo last week.
"Overall I thought we had a good performance," said ODU head coach Steve Martin. "We won seven out of ten matches. Jeske looked very good. Chris Mecate continues to win. Hard fought matches at 149 and 157, where we fell behind and came back. Devin Geoghegan looked unbelievable at 165. Billy Curling put a lot of points on the board tonight for us, which was good for him. Jack Dechow looked really good, he put up bonus points. Overall, we got after them."
The meet started at 125 lbs. and ODU's Brandon Jeske picked up a 6-2 decision win over NIU's Nick Harrison with a bonus point, giving the Monarchs an early 3-0 lead.
At 141 pounds, No. 5-ranked Chris Mecate defeated NIU's Tyler Argue by a 4-0 decision, which tied the team score at 6-6. Mecate is now 21-6 this year and 10-4 in dual matches.
Alexander Richardson (149) and Tristan Warner (157) both won by 7-5 sudden victories. Both matches were close and the Monarchs were down in both matches but came through with the decision wins.
ODU's Devin Geoghegan (165) put up 15 points against NIU's Shaun'Qae McMurty. Geoghegan came away with a 12-9 decision win, which gave ODU a comfortable 15-6 team lead.
At 174 and 184 pounds, Billy Curling and Jack Dechow came away with major decision victories, which gave Old Dominion a 23-9 team lead.
Old Dominion has faced seven ranked opponents this season and hosts Central Michigan on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center.
