    Oklahoma trounces Fresno State

NORMAN, Okla. -- It took the No. 8/8 Oklahoma wrestling team only 59 minutes to dispose of the Fresno State Bulldogs in a brutal 50-0 beating Saturday inside Howard McCasland Field House.

The Sooners had the upper hand to begin the dual with Fresno State forfeiting three matches at 157 pounds, 165 pounds and 174 pounds. Add to that three falls and two major decisions by the Sooners and you have your outcome.

"I thought we wrestled very well today," said head coach Jack Spates. "I am very pleased to be getting pins not just wins, and I thought we were focused and aggressive. Sam (Hazewinkel) was a little sloppy but he turned his match around at the end and came through with a victory and Jake (Hager) was in a tough match and pulled away at the end and that's what you like to see."

Hazewinkel led off for the Sooners by defeating Cory Borges by a decision of 9-6. Teyon Ware scored the Sooners first fall at the 4:06 mark in his 141 pound match defeating Garrett Spooner of Fresno State. Matt Storniolo followed that up with a fall at the 2:37 mark against Dustin Rocha in their 149 pound match.

At 184 pounds Justin Dyer notched a major decision of 14-5 against Greg Gifford. Joel Flaggert made quick work of Brandon Halsey scoring a fall in the first period at 0:56 seconds in his 197 pound match. Heavyweight Jake Hager dominated Cody Parker taking home a major decision 11-3 to close out the day.

"Were going to have to step it up in tonight's match because it's going to be a lot stiffer competition. I think were going to come out ready to wrestle and I'm excited to see it," continued Spates.

Oklahoma hosts Cal Poly tonight at 7 p.m. in the nightcap of their double header. Fans can have their picture taken with mascots Boomer or Sooner before the match from 6-7 p.m and the first 200 fans will receive a free OU t-shirt.

The Sooners are home again next weekend Sat. Jan. 28, when it hosts Iowa State at 4 p.m. inside the Howard McCasland Field House.
