The Sooners finished the day strong, defeating the Mustangs after putting away Fresno State, 50-0 earlier in the day.
"I was very impressed and pleased with how aggressive we wrestled tonight," said head coach Jack Spates.
"We scored a bunch of pins which I was very happy to see because we have been stressing that a lot in practice. I thought the National Duals last weekend was a good competition to help prepare us for this match."
The Sooners led from beginning to end and the outcome was never in question.
Sam Hazewinkel scored a fall on John Hanks in their 125 pound match at the 2:38 mark to begin the night. Also scoring a fall for the Sooners was Jake Hager in the heavyweight match against Arturo Basulto at the 0:39 mark.
Notching major decisions for the Sooners were Teyon Ware 141 pounds against David Roberts, 14-4, Justin Dyer 184 pounds against Ryan Halsey, 13-2, and Joel Flaggert 197 pounds against Yuri Kalika, 15-3.
The Sooners earned decisions from Matt Storniolo 149 pounds against Jeff Owens, 10-5, Shane Vernon 157 pounds against Ryan Williams, 7-3, and Jarrod King 165 pounds against Rob Maxwell, 6-2.
"I felt very good after the National Duals because I felt we learned something, and it showed here tonight. We had focus, determination and aggressiveness tonight that we did not have at the National Duals," continued Spates.
The Sooners are home again next weekend Sat. Jan. 28, when it hosts No. 9/12 Iowa State at 4 p.m. inside the Howard McCasland Field House.
