OCU stuck four falls and another bonus-point win in the contest. The Stars, ranked eighth in NAIA wrestling, evened their dual record at 1-1.
The Stars built a 19-0 advantage through four weights. The dual started at 157 pounds.
“We're pretty solid in those weights,†OCU coach Archie Randall said. “It put our strength up front. Duals are about momentum. We were in control of the whole dual. We weren't in danger of losing the dual. The young kids had problems, but it's a matter of getting experience.â€
The Stars' Nik Turner, ranked third among NAIA 157-pounders, finished off Antonio Martinez in 2:55. Second-ranked Kevin Hardy added a fall over Lee Laxton in 2:45, then OCU's Derek Peperas, ranked seventh at 165, knocked off Jose Hernandez 10-2.
Andrew Pontikes' 9-2 win over Cesar Ponce gave the Stars their 19-0 lead. Cody Sivertsen dropped his 197-pound bout 9-2 to C.J. Berry as Bacone ended the shutout.
Michael Brown and Kidd Gomez followed with wins. Gomez, ranked fifth at 125, struck for a pin of Luis Mercado with two seconds remaining in their match.
