Five Tar Heels emerged victorious in the match. North Carolina junior Bobby Shaw (125) opened things up by pinning NC State's Jeremy Hartrum in 6:25. Shaw now has a season record of 19-15. At 141 pounds Vincent Ramirez maintained his unbeaten streak in the ACC with a 19-3 technical fall decision over the Wolfpack's Jalil Dozier. Ramirez, now 6-0 against ACC competition, improves to an overall record of 34-6.
NC State battled back from an eight point deficit after Vincent Ramirez's victory at 141 pounds to bring the match within one point heading into the final bout. The Wolfpack scored victories at 149, 157, 184, and 197 pounds while Carolina's Garrett Atkinson and Alex Maciag captured 165 and 174, respectively. With one match to wrestle, the Tar Heels led the Wolfpack 17-16.
North Carolina heavyweight, Spencer Nadolsky, captured the win for the Tar Heels with a 3-2 victory over State's Jainor Palma. The victory improves Nadolsky's record to 37-4. He leads the team in wins.
The Tar Heels return to action for their final dual match of the season when they host Old Dominion on Sunday, February 19 at 1:00 pm in Carmichael Gymnasium.
