    No. 28 Southeast Polk wins seventh straight CIML title

    In a conference tournament featuring two other nationally ranked teams, No. 28 Southeast Polk (Iowa) emerged as the decisive champions competing in their home gym on Friday evening. The Rams placed wrestlers in 13 of 14 weight classes, including six in the finals and eleven within the top four, to amass 242 points.

    Anchoring the championship performance were the weight class titles won by Adam Brown (126), Cade Devos (132), and Zach Barnes (145). Another trio of Southeast Polk wrestlers earned second place: Gauge Perrien (120), Nathan Lendt (138), and Gavin Babcock (170). Finishing in third were That Breitspreiker (160), Gabe Christensen (182), Grant Dishinger (220), and Levi Brand (285). Fourth place honors went to Cody Wonderlich (195), Ryan Strickland (106) placed seventh, while Mark Ames (113) earned eighth.

    This was a seventh consecutive CIML team title for Southeast Polk.

    Finishing as runners-up were No. 43 Fort Dodge (Iowa) on the strength of a tournament high four weight class champions. Winning titles for the Dodgers were No. 15 Drew Bennett (113), No. 3 Brody Teske (120), Triston Lara (138), and Cayd Lara (152). Eight other wrestlers earned a podium finish on the way to 203 points.

    Bennett won the tournament's most notable bout, a 9-8 championship match decision over No. 16 Kyle Biscoglia (Waukee, Iowa); Biscoglia was state champion last year at 106, beating Bennett in the quarters, but Bennett now is 2-0 against Biscoglia on the season.

    The third nationally ranked team in the CIML, No. 38 West Des Moines Valley (Iowa) finished third in the standings with 193 points. Leading the way for the Tigers were Joel Shapiro (160) and No. 8 Rocky Lombardi (220), each of whom won their weight class. Five other wrestlers finished in the top three, to make it seven in all from their ten total placers.

    Runner-up finishes were earned by Nick Oldham (106), Grant Stotts (145), and Joe Nicholson (152); while Noah Hughes-Reilly (120) and Connor Corbin (195) both finished third.

    Rounding out the weight class champions at the CIML meet were Cullan Schriever (106) and Carter Roberts (182) from Mason City (Iowa), No. 8 Marcus Coleman (170) and Colin Newell (285) from Ames (Iowa), and Kaden Sauer (195) from Dowling Catholic (Iowa).
