The 125-pounder was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Virginia Intercollegiate State Tournament last weekend, where he went 3-0 with two technical falls. His win helped lead ODU to a third straight team victory at the VA States. Prior to that, he went 5-1 for a 3rd place effort at the respected Southern Scuffle tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina.
During the Scuffle, Nicholson faced the CAA's top ranked wrestler at 125, Dave Tomasette from Hofstra, and defeated the Pride grappler 4-2. The win propelled Nicholson to the top of the conference rankings and into the national polls for the first time in his young career.
Nicholson is ranked by four national polls including a ranking as high as 13th by Amateur Wrestling News (AWN). He is 16-7 overall this season.
