The Huskers dealt with a pesky Bronc squad all day, as a Rider win at 184 pounds pulled the Broncs within six points, 15-9, and evened the dual at three matches each. Brester then notched a 9-1 major decision over Morrision at 197 to spark NU to victories in three of the final four matches.
Brester, a sophomore, registered a takedown early in the first period and worked his way to a three-point nearfall to take a 5-0 lead after the opening stanza. An escape and another takedown in the second period put him up 8-1 and boosted him to his second consecutive victory over a ranked opponent. Brester is 5-1 against ranked foes this season and 19-3 overall.
Several other Huskers contributed to the win, as Nebraska posted six bonus-point victories in the six matches it won. Junior Brandon Browne helped turn the tide in NU's favor with a pin of Rider's Michael Darling in 2:39 at 174 pounds. The fall was Browne's third of the season and his 15th bonus-point win on the year.
Sophomore Jordan Burroughs, wrestling just 50 miles from his hometown, earned a 20-5 technical fall over No. 18 Don Fisch of Rider at 149 pounds. Burroughs recorded three takedowns and a three-point nearfall in the second period to earn his sixth technical fall of the season and 25th win.
Steven Dwyer's 12-3 major decision at 165 gave the Huskers the lead for good, after Rider won the first two matches to take a 6-5 lead. Dwyer, a sophomore, had two nearfalls in his match against Jason Lapham to earn his 26th win and seventh major decision. Senior heavyweight Jon May clinched the dual for the Huskers with a 12-3 major decision over Ed Bordas, while junior Paul Donahoe bounced back from a loss last week to claim a 22-5 technical fall over Rider's Ilyass Elmsaouri.
The Huskers are now 5-0 all-time against Rider.
Nebraska continues its East Coast trip with a dual against No. 16 Hofstra tomorrow at noon CT in Hempstead, N.Y.
