NCAA will not grant winter athletes additional eligibility, spring athletes will get extra year

NCAA wrestlers who had their seasons cut short due to the spread of coronavirus will not be granted additional eligibility, the NCAA announced Monday.

The NCAA's Division I Council voted to allow schools to provide student-athletes participating in spring sports an additional season of competition and an extension of their period of eligibility.

Athletes in winter sports, like wrestling, were not included in the decision. "Council members declined to extend eligibility for student-athletes in sports where all or much of their regular seasons were completed," the NCAA said in a press release.
