    MSU Moorhead rallies past Minot State

    MINOT, N.D. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team rallied with four wins in the final five matches to beat Minot State, 25-15 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Thursday night in Minot, N.D. Sophomore Shane Novak and Blake Bosch capped off the rally with back-to-back pins for the Dragons.

    MSUM improved to 5-5 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC with the win, while Minot State fell to 5-14 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC.

    The dual started at 141 pounds. The Dragons trailed 12-7 when the match went to intermission before winning four of the final five matches.

    "The guys came back out and ready to wrestle," MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said. "They were ahead of us at intermission, and our guys came back from intermission and wrestled well. We got pins from Shane Novak and Blake Bosch which were big."

    Trailing by five at intermission, MSUM's rally started at 184 pounds when senior Shawn Porter topped Kobina Henriques, 8-2 to bring the Dragons within 12-10.

    Junior Chris Bascon pushed the Dragons into the lead with a 6-4 win over Taylor Barstad.

    "I was really impressed with Chris Bascon," Nelson said. "He did everything we've been telling him to do as far as moving his feet and being aggressive."

    Minot State won at 285 as Mitchell Eull topped Dragon sophomore Nader Abdullatif, 6-0 to give the Beavers a 15-13 lead with two matches left.

    Novak helped the Dragons regained the lead – and the momentum – with a pin of Minot's Anthony Battle in 3:40 at 125. That gave the Dragons a 19-15 lead heading into the final match of the night.

    Bosch, who is ranked sixth in the nation at 133 pounds, finished the match off in impressive fashion with a pin of Minot's Jason Huger in 3:56 to give MSUM the 25-15 win.

    Minot State won the first two matches wrestled to take a 6-0 lead. The Dragons battled back to take a 7-6 lead with two straight wins. Sophomore Garret Hoffner beat Ricards Avakovs by a 9-7 score at 157 pounds, and sophomore Dan Murakami followed with a 10-2 major decision win at 165 to put the Dragons up by one.

    Minot State won by fall at 174 pounds to regain the lead at 12-7 before MSUM rallied with four wins in the final five matches.

    The Dragons are back in action on Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State. The dual begins at 3 p.m. in Marshall, Minn.
