For the first time in a month, the Tigers welcomed junior Alan Waters back to the starting lineup. Waters has been perfect so far this year, and has been a huge asset in dual meets especially at the top of the lineup. Missouri's 125-pounder kicked off Saturday's dual with a pin over Nick Harrison of NIU. Waters took a quick 4-1 lead in the first period before getting Harrison flat on his back at 2:27.
Senior Nathan McCormick remained undefeated in dual meets this season with a decision over Nick Smith. McCormick tallied three takedowns in the 8-2 win, two of which came in the first period. After two weight classes, the Tigers had built a comfortable 9-0 lead.
The Huskies picked up their only three points of the dual at 141 pounds. Kevin Fanta of NIU took a 2-0 lead after one period. Mizzou senior Nicholas Hucke closed the gap to one in the second, but an escape and takedown in the third by Fanta decided the bout. Fanta won 6-1 with riding time.
From then on out, the Tigers didn't lose. Drake Houdashelt was a scoring machine in his 18-6 major over Rob Jillard. Houdashelt tallied eight takedowns with six in the third period alone. Houdashelt leads the squad with eight major decisions on the season.
Mizzou won by major decision at 157 and 165 as well. Kyle Bradley added two takedowns and a two-point nearfall in the third period against Andrew Morse of NIU to get into bonus point territory and take the bout 11-1. Junior Zach Toal followed that performance with a couple of two-point nearfalls in the first period to take a commanding 8-0 lead after two periods. The 165-pounder added one last takedown in the final frame and took the match 11-0.
Senior Todd Porter is still undefeated in dual matches after an 8-3 decision over Matt Mougin. Porter has been a force at 174 this season as he continues to work toward qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career.
Seniors Mike Larson and Brent Haynes each added six team points via the fall in their matches. Larson trailed early, but after a mix of takedowns and two-point nearfalls, Mizzou's grappler out of McKinleyville, Calif. pinned his counterpart Bryan Loughlin with 13 seconds remaining in the third period. Brent Haynes only needed 2:52 to get the fall. Haynes proved to be too much for Huskies' grappler Parker Settecase, and quickly. Haynes had four nearfalls before finishing off Settecase.
No. 1 ranked Dom Bradley added the final three team points against NIU heavyweight Jared Torrence. Bradley took the match 2-1 with an escape and a point for riding time. The Tigers have a quick turnaround and will be back in action tomorrow against 21-ranked Northern Iowa. Here are the projected lineups for tomorrow's matchup.
