Missouri cruises to 25-11 victory over Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – In a dual between two top-10 teams, No. 9 Mizzou Wrestling (7-2, 4-0 MAC) dominated No. 7 Cornell (5-2, 0-0 EIWA) in a 25-11 win on Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y. Mizzou won the first seven bouts of the day and did not yield a takedown until the eighth match of the day.

Redshirt junior 125-pounder Barlow McGhee (Rock Island, Ill.) started the day for the Tigers, registering a 7-2 win over Noah Baughman. The match was close in the final period, but McGhee executed a takedown and got back points in the final minute to open the score and secure the win. Redshirt sophomore 133-pounder John Erneste (Kansas City, Mo.) followed, earning an 8-2 victory over Mark Grey.

In the third bout of the day, redshirt junior 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.) posted the first Tiger bonus point win of the match, defeating Will Koll by way of a 15-4 major decision. Eierman led 9-2 heading into the third period and scored three more takedowns to earn the major decision. Next for Mizzou was redshirt senior 149-pounder Lavion Mayes (Mascoutah, Ill.), who posted the second straight major decision in a row, defeating Jonathan Furnas, 12-4.

After a two match absence, redshirt junior Joey Lavallee (Reno, Nev.) returned to the starting lineup against the Big Red, earning a 5-3 win over Taylor Simaz. Following Lavallee was redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.), who matched up against Joey Galasso, ranked No. 16 at 149 pounds. Lewis made quick work of Galasso, scoring a takedown and four near-falls in the first period to earn a 17-0 technical fall.

Redshirt freshman 174-pounder Dylan Wisman (Winchester, Va.) gave Mizzou its seventh straight victory by defeating Brandon Womack, who wrestled up a weight class from 165 pounds. Wisman held his own and then some against Womack, who is ranked No. 14 in the nation at 165 pounds, defeating the Cornell wrestler by a score of 9-4. Cornell won the last three bouts of the dual to cap the score at 25-11.
