The win clinched fifth place for the Tigers, their highest NWCA National Duals finish since 2007 when they finished in second. Missouri beat No. 6 Boise State 21-12 earlier in the day.
The Tigers quickly found themselves in a 9-0 hole after two matches, but Todd Schavrien got the Tigers on the scoreboard with a 7-2 decision. Down 2-1 after the first, Schavrien recorded an escape and a takedown in the second to take the 4-2 lead. Another takedown, plus riding time, gave the senior his fifth win on the weekend.
Oklahoma State claimed the 149 pound match to extend their lead to 12-3, but the Tigers clawed back in it with three consecutive wins, starting with a huge win by Nick Gregoris. The 157-pounder got a takedown a little more than a minute into the match, and turned No. 14 Neil Erisman to his back for a three point near fall 20 seconds later. Gregoris kept working tough on top, and eventually stuck Erisman on his back for the fall at 2:35.
The Tigers tied the match up 12 apiece with Zach Toal’s win at 165 over No. 16 Dallas Bailey. With a 5-3 lead heading to the third, Bailey escaped in 13 seconds and took Toal down 20 seconds later to tie the match. Bailey rode Toal for over a minute, draining Toal’s riding time, but the Tiger grappler worked an escaped with under 20 seconds left to get the victory.
An injury default at 174 gave the Tigers six more points, pushing their lead to 18-12. The Cowboys took a 3-2 decision at 184 and a major decision at 197 to take a one point lead, but a victory by Dom Bradley clinched the dual for the Tigers. Bradley built up a 5-0 heading to the third, where his opponent escaped for his only point of the match. The Tiger junior collected 1:30 of riding time, giving him a 6-1 win.
