Fifth-year senior Alec Pantaleo and freshman Mason Parris provided highlights for the Wolverines in their home debuts this season. Pantaleo, ranked 12th nationally at 157 pounds, earned his first dual win -- after missing much of the first semester -- with a 10-3 decision over 14th-ranked Eric Barone. Pantaleo scored four takedowns, and was close to a fifth in the waning seconds of the match, and rode for 1:25 advantage time.
Parris, ranked eighth at heavyweight after coming out of redshirt last week, transitioned an arm bar to half to pin Deuce Rachal at the 5:57 mark in the final bout of the evening. He led, 14-3, at the time of the fall on four takedowns and four back points. It was Parris' team-best 10th pin of the season and second straight in dual competition.
The Wolverines also earned bonus points from its trio of junior All-Americans, with Stevan Micic and Myles Amine earning major decisions at 133 and 174 pounds, respectively, and Logan Massa rolling to a dominant technical fall at 165 pounds. The trio combined for 23 takedowns on the night.
Micic, ranked second at 133 pounds, earned Michigan's lone win at the lowerweights, cruising to an 18-8 win over 18th-ranked Dylan Duncan to improve to 6-0 on the season. He scored seven takedowns in the bout, including three in the first period, added a reversal in the second and rode for 1:09. Micic boasts bonus points in four of his six wins this year.
Massa, ranked ninth at 165 pounds, scored 11 takedowns -- six in the first period -- to earn a 24-9 technical fall against Nick Gasbarro out the intermission break. Massa closed out the bout with two takedowns in the third period to end it in 5:42.
Amine, ranked third at 174 pounds, closed strong to earn a 12-3 major decision against Carver James. Amine scored five takedowns, including a pair of high crotches in the third period to secure the bonus point. Massa and Amine are both 5-1 in duals this season.
Fifth-year senior Malik Amine and senior/junior Jackson Striggow rounded out the Wolverines' winners with decisions at 149 and 197 pounds, respectively. Both have claimed four straight wins in dual competition. Amine defeated Christian Kanzler, 4-0, on a pair of penalty points and a third-period rideout that earned him 1:49 in time advantage. Striggow beat Matt Wroblewski, 8-5, behind three takedowns -- two in the third period. Striggow countered an Illinois single-leg shot, scoring a takedown out of the ensuing scramble, to ice the bout late.
Michigan (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten) will stay in the Mitten State for a pair of conference duals next weekend. The Wolverines will travel to East Lansing to face in-state rival Michigan State at 7 p.m. on Friday (Jan. 18) at Jenison Field House, before hosting Purdue at 2 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 20) at Cliff Keen Arena. Both duals will be streamed live via BTN Plus. Tickets are still available for Sunday's dual against the Boilermakers through the U-M Ticket Office.
