In the first matchup of two regionally ranked wrestlers, No. 4 Nate Ross narrowly escaped the last second efforts of No. 1 Francis Mizia to tie the match in the final seconds, holding on for a 5-4 win.
In the following matchup, the region's top-ranked 174 pounder (No. 3 nationally) wasted little time avenging the Lakers loss in the previous bout, needing only 19 seconds to pin Jake Stratton and bring Mercyhurst even in the team scoring, 15-15.
The win for A. Mizia moved him into sole possession of second place on the Lakers all-time career wins list with 110. Andy Lamancusa holds the all-time mark at 119.
At 184 lbs, Angelo Bortoluzzi posted a major decision of Chris Matthews, 12-3. Matthews is currently ranked No. 4 at 174 lbs.
At 197, Lorenzo Maddox used a 5-2 decision over Jamar Henry to cut the Lakers lead to one, 19-18, heading into the final match.
Heavyweight Andy Welton sealed the victory for the Lakers with a technical fall (16-0, 4:17) .
