Although the Bulls suffered a tough loss, two wrestlers came away with noteworthy wins. John Arceri (149) won by major decision over Gaven Sax 10-2, and Tristian Daugherty (125) defeated Colby Evans by decision 7-5.
The Bulls will wrestle on Saturday, December 18th vs. Bucknell University (11:00am) and Lock Haven (12:30pm) in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Central Michigan: The Chippewas traveled to the Cleveland State Open, where they posted a dominant performance. Of the twenty-five wrestlers who entered the tournament, fifteen finished on the podium, placing within the top-eight in their weight class. Corbyn Munson (149) defeated Dan Mancini of Pittsburgh by decision 4-2 in the final bout, claiming the title. Ja'Kerion Merritt (133), Will Grater (141), Tracy Hubbard (165), and Arron Bolo (197) all placed 2nd for the Chippewas. Drew Marten (141), Bret Fedewa (174), and Ben Cushman (184) placed 3rd on the podium. Brock Bergelin (125) and Vince Perez (133) both ended up with a 5th place finish. Sean Spidle (125) was the lone wrestler who placed 6th. The following Chippewas rounded out the tournament with 8th place finishes from Mason Breece (149), Trenton Wachter (157), Chandler Amaker (165), and Cade Dallwitz (197).
The Chippewas will compete at the Journeyman Collegiate Duals on Monday, December 20th, and Tuesday, December 21st.
Clarion: The Golden Eagles made the trip to Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, where they had a doubleheader against Stevens Institute of Technology and Messiah College. The Golden Eagles swept both matches, as they defeated Stevens 36-14, and Messiah 35-15. The following Golden Eagles went 2-0 on the day, reigning victorious over both opponents. Cameron Pine (165) had a pair of dominant performances over James Snyder of Stevens and Zach Needles of Messiah, both by tech fall 17-2 and 21-2, respectively. Caleb Hetrick (174) won by injury default over Frank Medina of Stevens and, by tech fall over Tyler Riley of Messiah 17-2. Austin Chapman (HWT) also had a dominant performance over both his opponents, pinning his way through the weekend, with falls over Joseph Russell of Stevens in 2:11, and Carter Urich of Messiah in 4:15.
Clarion will wrestle at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, December 19th, in Reno, Nevada.
Cleveland State: On Saturday, the Vikings hosted their 17th Annual Cleveland State Open inside of Woodling Gymnasium. The Vikings had one champion, and six additional place finishers. Riley Smucker (165) captured the title after defeating Patrick Daum of West Virginia by decision 11-5. The remaining place winners were: Daniel Patten (157) 2nd, Ben Smith (197) 3rd, Logan Heil 125) 4th, Marcus Robinson 149) 5th, DeAndre Nassar 184) 6th, and John Kelbly (HWT) 6th.
Cleveland State will return to action on Monday, December 20th, with a doubleheader against Chattanooga (10:30am) and West Virginia (1:30) in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Edinboro: The Fighting Scots fell short to two opponents this weekend as they traveled to Binghamton University, dropping a 29-12 matchup against the Bearcats and a 34-9 loss to North Dakota State. Although the Fighting Scots lost both contests, two wrestlers went 2-0 on the day. Logan Jaquay (125) won by FFT over North Dakota State and defeated Nick Curley of Binghamton by major decision 10-1. Ethan Ducca (184) reigned victorious over DJ Parker of North Dakota State by a 3-2 decision, and defeated Sam DePrez of Binghamton by a 3-2 decision.
The Fighting Scots will be back in action on Tuesday, December 21st, as they host Kent State University in the McComb Fieldhouse at 1:00pm.
Kent State: The Golden Flashes traveled to the Cleveland State Open, where they had four wrestlers finish on the podium. Colin McCracken (184) fell short in the final bout against Donnell Washington of Indiana, giving him a 2nd place finish. Jacob Cover (HWT) won by medical forfeit over Blake Chrisman (HWT), giving the wrestlers a 3rd and 4th place finish on the podium, respectively. Casey Wiles (141) placed 6th after dropping a 12-2 major decision to Cayden Rooks of Indiana.
The Golden Flashes will return to action on Saturday, December 18th, with a doubleheader against Northern Illinois University (1:00pm) and Harper College (TBD) in Dekalb, Illinois.
Lock Haven: The Eagles traveled to Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, where they had a quad with Messiah College, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Millersville University. The Eagles swept all three matches, defeating Messiah 41-3, Stevens 36-11, and Millersville 33-15. Four wrestlers dominated the field by going a perfect 3-0 on the day. Anthony Noto (125) defeated Hunter Rinehart of Messiah by tech fall 17-2, Akhil Vega of Stevens by tech fall 16-1, and Bryce Beatty of Millersville by fall in 1:30. Ben Barton (157) finished victorious over Nick Barnhart of Messiah by an 11-5 decision, Nick Boggiano of Stevens by a 16-11 decision, and Jonathan Parrilla of Millersville by a 3-1 decision. Ashton Eyler (165) topped Zach Needles of Messiah by tech fall 17-1, Harrison Hinojosa of Stevens by an 8-0 major decision, and Brandon Connor of Millersville by a 5-2 decision. Parker McClellan (197) defeated Joe Embleton of Messiah by fall in 2:39, Michael Dooley of Stevens by an 8-0 major decision, and Bruce Vaughan of Millersville by fall in 1:34.
The Eagles are slated to compete at the Bucknell Tri-Meet against Bucknell University and the University at Buffalo on Saturday, December 18th at 11:00am in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Ohio University: On Saturday, the Bobcats traveled to Bellarmine University, where they won in dominating fashion, shutting out Bellarmine 50-0. Oscar Sanchez (125) won by FFT, Gio DiSabato (133) defeated Max Dansereau by tech 19-3, Kyran Hagan (141) won by FFT, Alec Hagan (149) defeated Mitch Collica by fall in 1:51, Jordan Slivka (157) won by fall over Alex Rhine in 4:28, Sean O'Dwyer (165) was victorious over Devan Hendricks by a decision of 4-1, Sal Perrine (174) defeated Eric Beck by decision 10-6, Logan Stanley (184) won by decision over Sam Schroeder 5-3, Carson Brewer (197) landed the fall over Charlie Cadell in 1:27, and Jordan Earnest won by fall over Bryant Wilkinson in 2:24.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, December 18th, where they will wrestle Gardner-Webb, George Mason, and Campbell in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, at 12:00 pm.
SIU Edwardsville: The Cougars battled hard this past weekend, but ultimately fell short to both Chattanooga 30-12 and Illinois 34-6. Although the Cougars suffered a pair of tough losses, two wrestlers went a perfect 2-0 on Saturday. Saul Ervin (141) defeated Franco Valdes of Chattanooga by a 3-1 decision and We Rachal of Illinois by a 3-2 decision. Ryan Yarnell (197) topped Thomas Sell of Chattanooga by a 4-2 decision and Nikita Nepomnyaschiy of Illinois by a 3-0 decision.
The Cougars will wrestle at the Midlands Championships on Wednesday, December 29th, and Thursday, December 30th, in Evanston, Illinois.
